We decided to film some text shots of the city to decide where the best locations would be. We used the following equipment:
- Video Camera
- Tripod
- Still Camera
We took a still camera to take photographs of locations that we found and also to help with our story boarding. In Bristol there are many different places that we could have used to depict the city. We chose:
- Outside 'The Hippodrome' - Traffic lights and traffic shot - This is in the centre of Bristol and so is always busy with traffic and pedestrians. This would give us an idea of how much background action we need to fill the shot and make it interesting.
- On top of the NCP Car Park - establishing - This will give us a shot across the whole of Bristol, enabling us to show the skyscrapers and other landmarks that the city has to offer.
- Brandon Hill - establishing - Another place where we could see across Bristol, this time however over the waterfront, this showing the more tranquil and modern end of the city.
- Cabot Circus - general city shots - This new shopping complex is another place in which we can try to capture the busyness of city life.
We then input this film into I Movie and started playing around with effects and matching it to parts of the song. We discovered that the traffic shots looked good in black and white and also made quicker to give the blur of busy traffic. We also decided that our city establishing shots would be good as the first glimpse of the city within our music video, o set the scene.
By filming these test shots we were able to get a better idea of what our video will eventually look like. Also whilst out filming we were able to get other ideas of shots that would look good.
We are next planning to film our actor Josh Embury performing the song, this is something we will cut to and from during the video.
